Why Join CompetentRoofer?

CompetentRoofer is the only roofing specific, Government authorised, 3rd party accredited Competent Person scheme. As a CompetentRoofer authorised contractor you will be able to self-certify that you work complies with Part L of the Building Regulations. By registering work through the scheme, you save your domestic and commercial clients both time and money.

CompetentRoofer was created in 2006 to give buyers of roof refurbishment works a place to find reputable roofing contractors which can assist in their compliance with building regulations (in England and Wales). The scheme is open to all roofing contractors and covers all types of roofing from domestic to commercial and industrial including pitched, flat and metal roofing disciplines.

If 50% of a roof is refurbished, it is a legal requirement to notify the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and upgrade the insulation. If LABC is not notified of the works, you, the contractor can face unlimited fines and the building owner will have legal difficulties when it comes to selling their property. By registering the work through CompetentRoofer, you can take the strain off your client. Use of the scheme can save the property owner £1,000’s which is particularly prevalent in Housing Association schemes.
