CompetentRoofer is an independent company run by NFRC under authorisation by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
After several years of consultation and considerable work, on the 1st October 2010, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors Limited (NFRC) was authorised by the Government to set up a Competent Person Scheme for roofing in England and Wales and the scheme was named CompetentRoofer.
Although run by NFRC, CompetentRoofer is open for any roofing contractor to apply to join and NFRC members are not automatically CompetentRoofer members. NFRC members have to apply separately to join CompetentRoofer.
CompetentRoofer companies are able to self certify on suitable renovation and repair work for domestic, commercial and industrial roofing. The scheme works in concert with Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and gives roofers the opportunity to provide an all-in-one service to the building owner. The scheme also aims to help to marginalise the less professional roofing companies that exist in all markets.
